What this NEB GPA calculator works out
Type the marks from your Class 11 or Class 12 grade sheet, or pick the letter grades, and the calculator shows:
- Your GPA, weighted by credit hours and rounded to two decimals, the way NEB prints it. It updates with every box you fill.
- The final grade of each subject (A+ to D), from its theory and practical grades combined by credit hours.
- Any NG, with the reason and the marks you would need: at least 35% in theory and 40% in practical.
- A printable grade sheet laid out like NEB's, with a theory and an internal row for each subject, and a link that reopens the same marks.
It follows the Letter Grading Directive 2083 for grades and NG, and the Secondary Education Curriculum 2076 for credit hours, so it works the same for Class 11 and Class 12. It is free, needs no sign-up, and keeps your marks on your own device.

How to use it
- Pick your stream. Choose Science, Management or Other (Humanities, Education, Law). The usual subjects for that stream are filled in.
- Check your subjects. A subject with a dashed underline can be changed: tap Computer Science to make it Biology, or Business Studies to pick another optional subject. Add an extra subject with Add a subject.
- Type your marks. Type the theory mark in the first box and the practical (internal) mark in the second. Enter moves to the next box. If you only have letter grades, switch to Grades.
- Read your GPA. Your GPA appears under the subjects and updates with every box. Each subject also shows its final grade, and an NG says which mark is short.
- Print or share. Print grade sheet gives an A4 sheet in NEB's layout; Copy link gives a link that opens the same marks.
How NEB calculates your GPA
Your grade sheet has two rows for most subjects: theory (TH) and internal (IN). Each row is graded on its own, then the rows are averaged by credit hours. That is why you cannot add your theory and practical marks together and grade the total: two students with the same total can get different GPAs.
- Turn each part into a percentage. 62 out of 75 in Physics theory is 82.67%.
- Read its grade point off the scale below. 82.67% is A, worth 3.6.
- Multiply by that part's credit hours. A 5 credit hour subject marked 75/25 gives theory 3.75 and internal 1.25 credit hours. Computer Science, marked 50/50, gives 2.5 and 2.5.
- Add every part of every subject, then divide by the total credit hours. For the usual six subjects that total is 27.
Worked example, one subject. Physics theory 62/75 is A (3.6) over 3.75 credit hours. Physics internal 23/25 is 92%, A+ (4.0) over 1.25 credit hours. (3.6 × 3.75 + 4.0 × 1.25) ÷ 5 = 18.5 ÷ 5 = 3.70, which the grade sheet prints as a final grade of A+.
Whole sheet. Nepali 60/20, English 68/22, Mathematics 50/24, Physics 55/21, Chemistry 45/22, Computer Science 40/45 adds up to 92.4 grade-point credit hours over 27 credit hours: a GPA of 3.42. Open this example
NEB grading scale (Letter Grading Directive 2083)
The Curriculum Development Centre replaced the 2078 directive with the Letter Grading Directive 2083 in Baisakh 2083. For Class 11 and 12 the scale did not change. Each band starts at its percentage and stops just below the next one, so 90.00% is A+ and 89.99% is A.
| Percentage | Grade | Grade point | Description | Marks out of 75 | Out of 50 | Out of 25 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 90 and above | A+ | 4.0 | Outstanding | 67.5 | 45 | 22.5 |
| 80 to below 90 | A | 3.6 | Excellent | 60 | 40 | 20 |
| 70 to below 80 | B+ | 3.2 | Very good | 52.5 | 35 | 17.5 |
| 60 to below 70 | B | 2.8 | Good | 45 | 30 | 15 |
| 50 to below 60 | C+ | 2.4 | Satisfactory | 37.5 | 25 | 12.5 |
| 40 to below 50 | C | 2.0 | Acceptable | 30 | 20 | 10 |
| 35 to below 40 | D | 1.6 | Basic | 26.25 | 17.5 | 8.75 |
| Below 35 | NG | none | Not graded | below 26.25 | below 17.5 | below 8.75 |
The marks columns are the lowest score that earns each grade on a paper of that size. If an older calculator shows D+, E or a 0.8 grade point, it is using the scale from before 2078, which no longer applies to Class 11 and 12.
From a subject's grade point to its final grade
A subject's theory and practical grade points are averaged by credit hours, and the result is shown as its final grade:
| Weighted grade point | Final grade |
|---|---|
| above 3.6, up to 4.0 | A+ |
| above 3.2, up to 3.6 | A |
| above 2.8, up to 3.2 | B+ |
| above 2.4, up to 2.8 | B |
| above 2.0, up to 2.4 | C+ |
| above 1.6, up to 2.0 | C |
| 1.6 | D |
NEB has not published this table. It is read from issued grade sheets, where a weighted 3.7 prints as A+ and exactly 3.6 as A.
When a subject is NG
- Theory below 35% (under 26.25 out of 75, or 17.5 out of 50) is NG.
- Internal below 40% fails too, because the directive asks for at least a C in internal. 9 out of 25 is 36%: it prints as D, but it does not meet the C requirement. You need 10 out of 25, or 20 out of 50.
- With an NG, NEB does not issue the GPA-bearing grade sheet until the subject is cleared, so the calculator shows NG instead of a number. It also tells you roughly where your GPA lands if you clear the subject at the minimum grade.
- You can resit the failed subject in the annual exam for up to three years, and your internal marks stay valid for that time. A Class 12 student with NG in up to two subjects can sit the supplementary exam.
- In Class 12 the exam form needs a Class 11 grade sheet with at least D in theory and C in internal in every subject.
Subjects it supports
Every Class 11 and 12 student takes Nepali (3 credit hours), English (4), and Social Studies and Life Skills or Mathematics (5), plus three optional subjects of 5 credit hours each. A subject name with a dashed underline can be changed in place, and Add a subject adds any other.
Science
Starts with Nepali, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science. Change Computer Science to Biology from its name, or keep it and add Biology as a fourth optional subject if you take both. Optional Mathematics is in the list as well.
Management
Starts with Nepali, English, Social Studies and Life Skills, Accountancy, Economics and Business Studies. Business Studies can be changed to Computer Science, Hotel Management, Business Mathematics, Marketing, Finance, Tourism and Mountaineering or Co-operative Management, and Social Studies to Mathematics.
Humanities, Education, Law and other streams
Other starts with Nepali, English, Social Studies and Life Skills and three optional subjects, Sociology, Psychology and Economics, each changeable to History, Geography, Political Science, Optional English, Optional Nepali, Mass Communication, Rural Development or any other listed subject. A subject that is not listed can be added by name with its theory and practical marks (75/25, 50/50 or 100/0); Education and Law subjects change title between Class 11 and 12, so add them that way.
Credit hours and full marks for every subject
Every Class 11 and 12 student takes Nepali (3 credit hours), English (4), and Social Studies and Life Skills or Mathematics (5), plus three optional subjects of 5 credit hours each: 27 in total. A subject's credit hours split between theory and internal in the same ratio as its marks. The internal code on your grade sheet is the theory code plus one, so Physics 1021 has internal 1022.

* We could not confirm this subject's theory and internal split in the curriculum text, so it uses the standard 75/25 (Hotel Management uses its 50 mark written paper). A ? means we could not confirm that Class 11 code.

About this calculator
This is the successor of the NEB GPA calculator at neb.paudelanuj.com.np, rebuilt from scratch by the WideMath team, the makers of the free online scientific calculator. The old version always divided by 27 credit hours, whatever you entered, and its help table used the grading scale from before 2078. This one grades theory and practical separately, divides by the credit hours you actually take, and applies the NG rules of the 2083 directive. The old address is moving here.
